Car insurance: Canal road changes being made

Tuesday, 03 June 2008

Improvements are being made to stretch of road in a Derbyshire town in an attempt cut down on the number of accidents seen there, something that could be good news for drivers' car insurance.

Changes are set to be carried out following an incident on Barrow-upon-Trent's Deep Dale Lane that saw a car plunge into a canal, reports the Derby Evening Telegraph.

Derbyshire county council officials have highlighted new procedures and added that others could be undertaken in a bid to solve the problem.

Extra warning and speed signs are to be placed in the run-up to the canal, which includes a bend in the road.

A spokesman at the council asserted that the results of a report will determine the extent of alterations in the future.

"Our road safety consultants have conducted a feasibility report to see what other measures could be added. This could include a safety barrier or widening a section of the road," he told the publication.

In April, a young child had to be rescued from the canal following a car collision, during which the vehicle hit the water.

This week, proposals were being drawn up to try and change the speed limit in parts of Overton, Hampshire.
