Travel insurance: Britain is being 'overlooked'

UK residents are generally overlooking Britain as a holiday destination, according to comments made by VisitBritain.

This is because it is now fairly easy for people to travel abroad and also that this is cheap alternative, a spokesman at the body noted.

Corporate PR manager at the organisation Elliot Frisby claimed that one of its aims is to try and raise the profile of the UK as a good place to take holidays.

And British Tourism Week can help to improve this profile, Mr Frisby commented, as a number of events have already been planned.

"There are guided tours going on with blue badge guides, MPs are visiting tourism businesses in their constituencies, and we have MPs signing a pledge card asking them to give their support to backing British Tourism Week," he asserted.

In total, the tourism industry in Britain employs about 2.1 million people, figures from the company itself have stated.

Tourists should ensure that they have adequate travel insurance before making any journeys.
