Car insurance: Winter driving tips from RoSPA

Sunday, 20 December 2009

Motorists should be prepared for difficult driving conditions before hitting the roads, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) says.

It is calling on drivers to think about how they maintain control of their vehicle when the weather causes problems with ice, fog and snow.

By planning ahead they can reduce the likelihood of an accident or breakdown and the possibility of making a car insurance claim.

"Safer winter driving is about good preparation - making sure that you are in a good state to drive, that your vehicle is in a good condition and that you've planned your journey," explained Kevin Clinton, head of road safety at RoSPA.

He points out that tiredness can be a particular threat for those driving over the festive season and urges motorists to plan rest stops.

RoSPA gives several tips for car owners to kee their vehicle well-maintained, such as ensuring lights are working, windscreens and windows are completely clear and checking tyre tread depths and pressures.
