Car insurance: Ditching breakdown cover 'could be a mistake'
Friday, 02 January 2009
Cost-cutting motorists who decided not to renew their breakdown car insurance cover this year may end up regretting that decision on Monday, it has been claimed.
The Environmental Transport Association has warned up to three million vehicle owners may find themselves stranded with no-one to call on January 5th 2009.
Director Andrew Davis said: "It's not just people who can feel flat following the new year festivities.
"The sub-zero temperatures predicted for early January mean many car batteries will fail."
He added motorists who have ditched their breakdown cover may find it was a false economy if they cannot get their cars started on Monday morning.
Drivers were advised whenever possible not to leave their vehicles unused for days on end, especially in cold weather.
Meanwhile, ETA recently urged people who did not want to jeopardise their
low cost motor insurance premiums to avoid arguing with family members when on the road.
