DIY lovers pay with home insurance

DIY enthusiasts are paying for their hobby by claiming on their home insurance for projects that quickly become disastrous.

This is according to a new survey, which has found that more than half of us are conducting home improvements ourselves to keep costs down.

However, a third of people have encountered DIY mishaps, while more than one in ten have even had to claim on their home insurance after results were not what they hoped.

Mark Gabriel from, which carried out the research, said: "With the economy so fragile, people's finances are under more pressure and things aren't getting any easier particularly with the rise in petrol prices and food prices."

Mr Gabriel went on to state that television often makes tasks look easier than they are, so people should pay close attention to their contents insurance policy to check they are covered if things do not go as planned.
