DIY over the bank holiday weekend

Sunday, 26 August 2012

Another bank holiday is here and for thousands of people this will mean an extra opportunity to do some DIY.

Extended weekends often see home owners heading to specialist DIY stores to stock up on home improvement equipment and it is likely that this Monday will see many people painting and wallpapering or carrying out more technical tasks such as fitting new bathrooms or remodelling.

However, for those who are being a bit more ambitious with their DIY efforts, they are being warned not to try anything which is beyond their capabilities for fear that they could end up damaging their home.

While there is little that can go wrong when painting a wall, tasks such as plumbing or dealing with electricity have the potential to cause floods and fires if anything goes wrong.

And while it may be tempting to save some cash by not calling in an expert, it could end up costing people more in the long run if people need to make claims on their home insurance.

So for anyone tackling some home improvements this weekend, have a careful think about what your limits are and only take on tasks you are confident performing.
