Don't throw away without thinking, says expert

Sunday, 03 June 2012

A spokeswoman for the environmentally minded website makeitandmendit.com has suggested that individuals should not simply throw things away without thinking – instead setting aside "a few minutes" prior to their trip to the tip.

"We need to think about what else we can do with old bits of furniture [and other items]" said Hilary Bruffell, who co-founded the website.

Such items could shine in the living rooms of home insurance holders (and others) once again with a simple improvement such as a lick of paint, she suggested. A throw could have the same effect, she explained.

Ms Bruffell also said that even when an individual goes off an item, someone else could find worth in it. In fact, it could be exactly the thing they're after.

She recommended checking out the sorts of websites that often sell second hand goods, to research the things that sellers are chucking out. The variety of products on offer covers a wide range, she said.

"Savvy shopping", she advised, could have great cash saving benefits.
