Door makeover recommended for home sellers

Tuesday, 12 June 2012

A door handles expert has recommended that home sellers try giving their front doors a makeover – replacing things like house numbers.'s James Gumersell told the likes of home insurance holders that when it comes to achieving a sale, "changing tired, weather beaten old front door knockers, numbers, and letter plates to shiny new versions is the starting point for getting the edge".

His organisation notes that many people don't spot the fact that a front door is the thing people first clap eyes on when it comes to a house or flat and advises adding fresh handles on all doors in a home.

Mr Gumersell also recommends adding fresh doors and handles to the cupboards in kitchens to spruce them up.

A Farrow and Ball survey recently suggested that some 90 per cent of people whose front door is painted a red shade think they make great neighbours.
