Double burglar nicked by tracking device

Friday, 27 January 2012

A man was arrested after tracking software caught him out after he twice broke into his neighbour's house.

The burglar entered the property on two separate occasions through the attic after having removed bricks on his own side and climbed through, stealing items and causing the owner to have to make costly home insurance claims.

However, he was later caught after using a stolen laptop triggered tracking software, and police were able to track it back to CCTV footage of him selling the item.

Acting sergeant Richard Skeath from Bristol priority crime team said: "This case is another example of how tracking software can be very valuable for the police and is another powerful tool in the fight against thieves."

Recently, South Wales Police warned homeowners to remain vigilant against crimes this year, after 11 homes were broken into over the period of a few weeks in their local area.
