Drink driving can mean a ban from using the roads and can make finding cheap car insurance a far more difficult task, yet it seems the message is not getting through to motorists.

This is according to police in Scotland, who say they are disappointed by the results of the first week of their summer drink drive campaign.

A total of 116 motorists were reported for driving under the influence of alcohol in the first week of the scheme.

One 17-year-old in particular could find it extremely difficult to obtain cheap car insurance after he was caught drink driving on the day he passed his test.

Assistant Chief Constable Tom Ewing Driving says driving whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs is "completely unacceptable".

He added: "Those who do it are not only risking their own lives but are completely disregarding the safety of their passengers and other road users."
