Drive safely on wet roads, says IAM

Monday, 13 June 2011

The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) is advising Brits to be careful on the road this summer especially if there are sudden heavy rain showers.

According to the IAM, car insurance customers should ensure that if their has been a downpour they leave enough stopping distance when driving behind other vehicles.

On top of this, the organisation advised people to make sure their windscreen wipers are working properly and that their automobile's windows are always clear to provide better visibility.

Simon Elstow, head of training at the IAM, said: "Rain after a long period of dry weather makes the road surface extremely slippery. A combination of oil, loose gravel and dried rubber all make conditions more dangerous."

Recently, the IAM recommended that Brits should ensure their vehicle's tyres are kept at the right pressure and have sufficient grip which makes handling and driving easier when people have to deal with a variety of road surfaces and conditions.
