Car insurance: A change in style 'could save drivers cash'

Sunday, 05 April 2009

Motorists who are concerned about keeping up with running costs such as car insurance, road tax and maintenance can take steps to reduce one area of their outgoings, it has been claimed.

According to the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), one of the easiest ways to save money is for people to change their driving style in order to improve fuel efficiency.

It explained being gentle on the pedals and driving smoothly can help vehicle owners reduce the amount they spend at the pump.

The group also pointed out doing 56 mph rather than 70 mph can reduce a fuel bill by 25 per cent.

Peter Rodger, IAM chief examiner, claimed by making the effort to change the way they drive, people can make a significant difference.

He stated: "Individual motorists can save up to ten per cent in terms of fuel efficiency."

Vehicle owners may also be able to cut costs by searching for budget car insurance online.
