Car insurance: Drivers 'should spring clean'

Friday, 20 March 2009

Motorists who want to avoid a car insurance claim may want to take advantage of the warmer weather to check their vehicles are in good working order, it has been suggested.

The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF) said it is easy to let grime build up over the winter, but spring presents the perfect opportunity to deal with this.

It advised vehicle owners to give their cars a good clean and then check to see if any further work needs to be done.

The group suggested drivers ensure the bodywork has not picked up any scratches or dents - and they were also reminded not to neglect their wheels.

RMIF director Sue Robinson commented: "Motorists may not have thought to check this during the winter months and they may be driving with illegal tyres without realising."

Vehicle owners who ensure their tyres pressure and tread depth are always at the correct levels may reduce their chances of being in an accident, thereby protecting their cheap car insurance premiums.
