Car insurance: Car insurance: Stay calm at the wheel this week
Tuesday, 04 November 2008
Ahead of National Stress Awareness Day on Wednesday (November 5th), Europcar has offered some advice to car insurance customers.
Tips for keeping calm could help drivers who find themselves with a vehicle full of noisy children or those sharing the road with inconsiderate motorists, said Catriona Lougher, Europcar UK Group marketing director.
"The more stressed and angry drivers become, the more likely they are to make rash decisions and run the risk of an accident," she added.
Listening to music or an audio book while driving are some of the suggestions for motorists, as well as planning the route thoroughly before embarking on the journey - even using a satellite navigation system if necessary.
When stuck in traffic, some simple breathing exercises can help to ease tension, Europcar said.
Inhale through the nose for five seconds, then exhale for eight, stretching out the hands in front of you while interlacing fingers. Hold this stretch for five seconds.
And if you want to also practice some eco-driving techniques, make sure to turn off the car's engine if stuck in a traffic jam for longer than five minutes.
