Car insurance: Drivers 'should not neglect their tyres'
Tuesday, 07 April 2009
Motorists who do not want to jeopardise their cheap car insurance premiums may do well to follow the advice of a tyre company.
Protyre has urged drivers who are planning a getaway in their vehicles this Easter to carry out certain checks before setting off.
The firm said it is expected there will be 13 per cent more traffic on the roads over the upcoming holiday so it is important tyres are in tip-top condition.
It reminded car owners to adjust their tyre pressure in accordance with how much weight is being carried and ensure tread depth is at least 2.5 mm.
Drivers were also urged to get their steering alignment checked out if there seemed to be excessive wear on the front tyres.
Simon Hiorns, retail director at Protyre, commented: "It's easy to forget to check your tyres with all the distractions of an Easter getaway, but they are critical to the safety of your vehicle."
Motorists who follow this advice may reduce their chances of being in an accident, thereby helping to protect the no-claims discount on their car insurance policy.
