Car insurance: Drivers may have to wait for electric cars
Wednesday, 06 August 2008
Motorists looking to make savings on their car insurance policies by going green may have to wait a little longer to do so.
Some cover firms offer cheaper deals to eco-friendly drivers, but Clean Green Cars (CGC) has stated that those waiting for the electric car to come along should opt for a hybrid for the time being.
According to the environmentally-conscious company, some 71 per cent of motorists would like to be behind the wheel of an electric vehicle but the technology simply is not yet available.
"The only prospect for the next five years for making significant improvements is the next generation of plug-in hybrids, which should appear from about 2010," Jay Nagley, speaking on behalf of CGC.
London residents were recently found to be the least likely to embrace alternative fuel technology in a study conducted by newcarnet.co.uk.
