Travel insurance: Electronic goods 'purchased overseas'
Tuesday, 25 March 2008
There are a number of great places for travellers to purchase electronic equipment, the Association of British Travel agents said recently.
Spokesperson at the organisation Frances Tuke noted that destinations including the Middle East, Asia and the US are great for tourists.
However, she warned consumers not to place anything too valuable in "checked-in luggage" because insurance may not cover it in that location if it gets broken.
Instead, these items should be taken onboard as hand luggage and kept near to the traveller.
"It's important that you take that in your hand luggage really because it's not necessarily safely insured in your checked-in luggage," she commented.
Specific places to take in mentioned by the firm included Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai.
TheSite.org recently suggested that a high number of Brits are shopping abroad, thanks in part to cheaper air travel. More cash is spent via mail order firms and the internet, it said.
People travelling abroad should ensure that they have an adequate travel insurance plan before they go.
