Extra Help Available for Those Affected by Extreme Weather

Thursday, 13 February 2014

In response to the high winds and floods that have affected thousands of people across the UK, here at Swiftcover we continue to make sure our customer’s have all the help they need.

In addition to providing our home and contents insurance policy holders with £1,000 in emergency payments, as part of the total claim, where they have been forced to leave their homes and find alternative accommodation, we’re also offering our support to help assess flood damage in affected areas, ensuring that all of our customers can move back into their properties and carry on with their normal lives as quickly as possible.

Call centre staff continue to be on hand to speed up the claims process, while other Swiftcover team members will be actively calling our customers to offer additional assistance. The help doesn’t stop there, though – Yves Masson, CEO, has said “With so many severe weather warnings in place, we are doing as much as possible to ensure all customers have the help and support needed to get them through this difficult time. We know that flood claims can be very disruptive often taking months to restore. For this reason it’s essential that we have a contingency plan in place that can offer customers the reassurance and support they need to help make their claim run smoothly.”.

Flood and extreme weather warnings are still in place across large parts of the UK, with some areas predicted to experience winds of up to 106mph over the next few days. While some damage in these conditions is unavoidable, there are a number of things you can do to help reduce the effect of high winds and floods. To help keep damage to a minimum:

• Where flooding is likely, turn off your water, gas and electricity supplies, and unplug all electrical items

• Move any valuable possessions, rugs, carpets and smaller electrical items to higher ground

• Weigh down any manhole covers outside your property to prevent them from floating away
and causing more damage

Swiftcover customers who have been advised to leave their homes by the emergency services or authorities, should pack a bag with medical supplies, insurance information and sentimental possessions, before finding alternative accommodation. Once you are in a safe place, please call our 24 hour claims helpline on 0871 559 1609*. Our claims team will be able to offer you expert support.

*Calls will be charged at 10p per minute from a BT landline. Calls from other networks, mobile phones or from outside the UK may vary.
