Motor insurance customers in England are using the safest roads in the UK, new research shows.

England has the lowest rate of road deaths in Britain, while Scotland has the second lowest and Wales follows in third place.

Furthermore, Northern Ireland has the most dangerous roads, according to a new report from the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM).

IAM director of policy and research Neil Greig said: "While the UK is now top of the European road safety league, the risk of being killed on UK roads varies considerably around the country."

Mr Greig also claimed that there are still areas in Britain that are hazardous for road users and advised the government to address the driving issues in these regions.

The report also found that the safest roads for car insurance customers to drive on are in the north-east and north-west, while the West Midlands offers the least safest road journeys.
