Car insurance: Green insurance growing

Thursday, 12 July 2007

Motorists and car insurance companies are increasingly interested in preserving the environment, according to the Environmental Transport Association (ETA).

Demand is climbing on account of the current political climate and the high media profile of green issues which are highlighted through events like last weekend's Live Earth.

David Douglas, spokesman for the ETA, said: "Since we've entered this green 'bubble' – it's very high on the political agenda – demand is climbing."

He added: "It's definitely a growth industry, and I think it will continue to grow."

There are car insurance products that help motorists make green choices; for example offers discounts for energy efficient cars.

And the cost of motor insurance is not the only saving drivers make with greener cars, they also pay less in petrol.

In various cities drivers of energy efficient cars also get discounts on parking; in Islington 4x4 drivers pay twice as much as motorists in greener cars.
