Car insurance: Eternal bulbs 'relief for motorists'

Wednesday, 25 October 2006

Car makers have come up with an idea that may mean you will never have to change your car headlights again.

At September's Paris car show both the Audi R8 and Lexus LS 600 presented light emitting diode (LED) headlights which last for the entire lifespan of the car.

Their light is also more intense and energy efficient, not to mention they light up ten times quicker than a standard bulb.

Albrecht Kraus, from Phillips LED headlight division, said: "With technological advance these problems will gradually be reduced but at the moment LEDs will be reserved for prestige car models."

Don't be over dazzled by the Audi model's LED lights which will illuminate the engine compartment so one's engine will be seen even during night time travel.

Remember that cheap car insurance is still a must even in the most technologically advanced cars.

LEDs are currently more expensive than other lighting techniques and also depend largely on the temperature of the surrounding environment, so it will be a few years before they are widely available in cars.
