Travel insurance: European destinations 'will become more popular'

Friday, 21 November 2008

The number of Brits taking out travel insurance policies for destinations in Europe could be set to rise over the next 18 months, if comments from one holiday company are anything to go by.

TravelMole has claimed people may opt to stay closer to home in a bid to save money.

Managing director Graham McKenzie said: "If we believe everything we hear in terms of the credit crunch then I think people will start to look carefully at where they go in terms of long haul."

However, he added some travellers may still be tempted to go to the US, as increased competition among providers of transatlantic flights means there are some good deals about.

Overall though, Mr McKenzie predicted European destinations will prove most popular for the next year or two.

For holidaymakers who are keen to go further afield, buying cheap travel insurance could help offset any additional expenses they face.
