EV motorists urged 'to plan their journey carefully'

Friday, 26 October 2012

Electric vehicle (EV) motorists have been urged to give careful consideration to the route their journey will take if it will involve giving their car a charge-up on the road.

The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership's head of communications, Neil Wallis, explained that the vast majority of cities in the UK have places where such vehicles can be recharged – something not all car insurance holders might have known about.

These points also exist on what he called "key routes" as well, for drivers to make use of. "The network is developing fast," he said.

The head of communications added that internet based tools exist that let EV motorists work out where they can charge their vehicles.

Next Green Car's Dr Ben Lane commented back in January that there were a lot of barriers in the way of EVs – citing "cost" as the number one such barrier.

"While the immediate benefits are that fuel costs are reduced, depreciation rates are pretty high because of the uncertainties associated with the new technology," he added. "That said, for fleet buyers, there are a host of additional business incentives for EVs."
