Motor insurance: Exmouth police promise speeding crackdown

Thursday, 13 March 2008

Those who dare to speed in the villages around Exmouth could find themselves facing fines and increased premiums on their car insurance.

Police in the area have pledged to bring speed guns to these rural areas and dole out penalties for those who do not follow the speed limits, the Exmouth Journal reports.

Residents in Woodbury and Clyde St George are among those who have contacted authorities to complain about speeding motorists.

Sargeant Phil Godfrey told the publication that the force is committed to combating this "serious problem" with random speed checks.

"We will be more than doubling our efforts during the month of March and a number of operations are planned in towns and villages," he added.

Meanwhile, some other areas around the UK have also been cracking down on speeding; six motorists were recently fined by police in Hailey in Oxfordshire, the Oxford Mail reports.
