Travel insurance: Self-catering 'good option for families'

Friday, 09 May 2008

Those with young children could go on a self-catering holiday as this may be easier for them, it has been claimed.

Such holidays are a way for these people to maintain an element of independence, a spokesperson at the Association of Independent Tour Operators noted.

And they should not feel as if they have to eat out each night, the spokesperson added, instead maybe opting to cook themselves to cater for their family.

Overseas self-catering options are growing in popularity so that these tourists can embark on options that suit them, the official observed.

While in the past they may not have thought of opting for such products, now tourists' attitudes are starting to change.

The spokesperson asserted: "I probably would never have dreamed of self-catering but now it's certainly attractive because you can put your child to bed upstairs and cook your own meal and that is an attractive proposition for a lot of people."

In total, 60 per cent of travellers were expected to go on self-catering breaks in 2007, Holiday Rentals said last year.

Tourists should ensure that they have adequate travel insurance before making trips away.
