Car insurance: New system 'improves efficiency of Fiat 500'

Monday, 09 February 2009

Motorists looking for a model that saves them money at the pump and qualifies for cheaper car insurance than their current vehicle may want to check out the latest addition to the Fiat 500 line-up.

The manufacturer has announced it is introducing a version equipped with a Start&Stop system.

With this technology in place, the model automatically turns off the engine when the car comes to a standstill and restarts it when the driver wants to set off again.

Commenting on the development, managing director Andrew Humberstone said: "We have been promising new ideas and features on our award-winning Fiat 500 since it was launched last year - and here is yet another example."

The 1.2-litre engine model which features the Start&Stop system boasts CO2 emissions of 113 g/km and fuel savings of up to 12 per cent compared with the standard version.

As well as cutting the amount spent at the pump, buyers who downsize from a larger vehicle may also find the Fiat 500 is eligible for low cost motor insurance.
