Car insurance: Fiat 500 wins green award

Tuesday, 06 October 2009

Drivers who have built up a healthy no-claims discount on their car insurance policy, meaning they benefit from low cost premiums, may find a model from Fiat can help them save money in other areas.

The manufacturer's 500 Start&Stop has clinched the title in its class at the 2009 GreenFleet Awards.

Named City Car of the Year, the auto was praised for its impressive eco credentials.

The judges pointed out the model boasts CO2 emissions of 110 g/km, which means owners qualify to pay band B road tax.

"A true four-seater, the 500 gives fantastic value to the consumer as well as being one of the greenest cars in its class," the panel concluded.

Motorists interested in the auto will be looking at paying a minimum of £8,700.

Buyers can choose between three trim levels - Pop, Sport and Lounge.

In related news, Fiat recently announced it has achieved the European target - of cutting average CO2 emissions to 130 g/km by 2015 - five years early.
