Car insurance: Drivers 'should check their policies thoroughly'

Thursday, 13 March 2008

Motorists should make sure they are fully aware of the fine print on their car insurance policies, a report has claimed.

Ken Gibson writes in the Sun that consumers should make sure they take the time to understand the "nuts and bolts" of their policy before committing.

Any questions can then be answered before a stressful situation arises, he explains.

Regarding the best type of car insurance to purchase, Mr Gibson recommends that drivers first assess the options that would be most suitable for their particular vehicle.

Old cars will likely require third-party or third-party fire and theft coverage, while a new or valuable second-hand car would probably be best served with comprehensive insurance, he says.

Mr Gibson concludes that by checking all aspects of a car insurance policy - such as stipulations for theft of personal items - motorists can make sure they are adequately protected.

Last month, research from swiftcover.com found that three-quarters of UK adults would buy a British car if given £100,000 to spend a vehicle.
