Car insurance: Ford Focus named used family car of the decade

Motorists looking for a used car and updated car insurance policy to go with it should look no further than their local Ford dealership, according to a new survey.

The poll by independent used car pricing experts CAP saw the Ford Focus 1998 - 2005 come out as the best medium used family car of the decade.

And the Ford Ka 1996 - 2008 was named the best small used car of the decade.

Judges rated cars on several criteria, including affordability, practicality, reputation, popularity and product improvement.

"Careful thought went into every element in the new design, covering performance, comfort, safety and even security," said Mark Norman, CAP judging panel chairman, of the Ford Focus.

"It is a vehicle whose design and execution has informed everything that followed."

Other winners included the Volkswagen Passat 1996 - 2005, Audi A3 2003 - 2008 and BMW X5 2000 - 2006.

Seat was named the most improved car brand of the decade.
