Friday, 05 February 2010
The Volkswagen Golf has been named as the safest car of 2009 by the EuroNCAP Institute in Brussels, offering car insurance customers a relatively risk-free vehicle.
Already boasting a five-star rating from the body from 2008, the car has now gone one better and been hailed for its ability across all four of the main categories.
This included occupant protection of adults, protection of children, pedestrian protection, and supporting safety and driver assistance systems.
Beating 33 other models to the award, the car is said to offer "maximum safety", combining a range of applications and functions focussed on providing a safe journey for the driver.
As well as an electronic stability programme with counter-steer assist, ABS with braking assistance and anti-slip regulation, the Golf also features Isofix mounting brackets for two child seats on the rear bench plus airbags for the driver and front-seat passenger.
In addition to the European awards it has collected, the Golf was also named "Top Safety Pick" by the independent US safety institute, Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
