Have a happy holiday and avoid breakdowns

Saturday, 06 August 2011

With many families hitting the UK highways this summer for their holidays, it is important they make sure their vehicle is safe, according to the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).

It told car insurance customers that in order to have a happy vacation and avoid potential breakdowns it is imperative people check the reliability of their automobiles.

The IMI sought advice from John Tinham, voted Top Technician in 2011, on how to make sure a vehicle is ready for a long journey.

Mr Tinham noted that people's number one priority should be to check tyre condition and pressure, as this helps keep fuel economy at its best.

Recently, GEM Motoring Assist chief executive David Williams said: "It is extremely important that drivers realise the necessity to ensure their cars have been fully checked, as there is a real danger in breaking down on a strange road with all the family on board and a car full of luggage."
