Travel insurance holders urged to head inland in Spain and Portugal

Wednesday, 09 February 2011

Travel insurance policyholders heading to Spain or Portugal should go inland to get the best holiday experience.

Tom Hall, travel editor at Lonely Planet, said going just ten miles in from the Spanish coastal resorts will give people the chance to see a completely different side to the country, which is traditional and very Spanish.

"If you are looking for a distinctive Spanish or Portuguese experience then you should try and do a little bit of exploring inland rather than just sticking to beaches," he added.

Jeremy Cook, chief economist at World First, recently said he believes "2011 will be a good year for the pound".

Commenting on whether good exchange rates will influence people's holiday choices, Mr Hall said reports show travel insurance holders are "getting more of a bargain going to places like Spain or Portugal".

Once they are on the continent, holidaymakers "are finding that living costs are more reasonable", he added.
