Travel insurance: Holidaymakers 'may opt for ferries over flights'

There may be an increase in the number of Brits taking out travel insurance for ferry trips to the continent next year, if comments from one holiday company are anything to go by.

TravelMole has reported it expects people to either stay in the UK or opt for destinations which are a short boat ride away.

Managing director Graham McKenzie said he expected the number of ferry bookings to rise in 2009.

He stated: "People will be able to shove all of their stuff in a car and just jump in with their kids and everything and just go off to France, Germany or Spain."

Mr McKenzie added any cities which could be reached via low cost flights were also likely to remain popular.

Holidaymakers keen to keep the costs of a trip as low as possible may find they can make significant savings by searching for cheap travel insurance rather than simply opting for the first policy they find.
