Travel insurance: Holidaymakers 'should have cover for all eventualities'
Wednesday, 10 March 2010
It is vital to take out comprehensive travel insurance when planning a trip abroad, according to the Association of Independent Travel Operators (AITO).
AITO spokesperson Ian Bradley said it was especially important for holidaymakers to ensure they had cover for any "out of the ordinary" activities they might undertake during a trip.
His comments follow recent research showing that while a third of Brits have already booked a foreign holiday for 2010, nearly 60 per cent admit they have not yet organised travel insurance.
Mr Bradley noted that many countries regularly update advice for travellers - including insurance requirements. For example, anyone visiting Cuba must first prove that they have adequate medical cover.
"A good travel agent or tour operator will be able to assist and point you in the right direction for specific requirements for each destination," said Mr Bradley.
He added that AITO strongly suggested that anyone travelling overseas should take out "comprehensive travel insurance to cover most eventualities".
