Travel insurance: Holidaymakers 'should read small print'
Wednesday, 08 July 2009
Holidaymakers should make themselves aware of the terms and conditions of their travel insurance policy, it has been claimed.
According to travelsupermarket.com, if people do not read the small print of their cover, they may find a provider refuses to pay out in the event of a claim.
It explained some policies will state if an incident occurs when the holder is under the influence of drink or drugs, then they were not taking reasonable care and protection will be invalidated.
The website stated people should enjoy themselves while abroad, but must think about their personal safety as well.
Bob Atkinson, travel expert with the online resource, said because cover is a last-minute, distress purchase for many holidaymakers, they do not give much thought to the policy they choose.
He stated: "They don't really understand what they are being insured for and I'm certain they won't read it to make themselves aware of any conditions of that insurance."
