Travel insurance: Brits 'will not sacrifice their holidays'

Monday, 08 December 2008

The number of Brits requiring travel insurance for overseas trips in the next year is unlikely to be badly affected by the current economic downturn, if comments from one tourism organisation are anything to go by.

According to the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta), people in the UK are less likely to sacrifice their annual foreign break than individuals from many other countries.

Commenting on Brits' attitude to their annual getaway, a spokesman for Abta said: "We've been going abroad in large numbers since the 1970s and for most people it's something they don't regard as a luxury anymore."

The group also pointed out holidaymakers can still access "good deals" from airlines and package tour operators, so there is no need for people to give up their annual trip overseas.

A recent survey by Abta found 47 per cent of Brits have no intention of sacrificing breaks abroad because of the economy.

Meanwhile, people may find they can save money on their summer holidays by searching for cheap travel insurance.
