Holidays 'the last thing to be cut back on'

Friday, 07 October 2011

Brits would rather make savings on their food shopping and home improvement projects than cut back on their annual holiday.

This is according to research by ABTA – the Travel Association, which revealed to travel insurance consumers that one in five vacationers claim their foreign break is a necessity they could not do without.

The organisation highlighted that nearly two-fifths of Brits have stated that they would not cut back on their yearly holiday, but would go to the cinema less and buy fewer electronic gadgets to save up the extra cash.

Victoria Bacon, head of communications at ABTA, said: "In tough economic times we all have to think of ways in which we can tighten our belts but it is very reassuring for the industry to hear that holidays are the least popular choice for the chop and for many, something they simply cannot live without."

However, ABTA recently revealed that two-fifths of Brits leave themselves open for potentially sky high medical bills by heading overseas without having a travel insurance policy in place.
