Travel insurance: Holidays turning pink
Tuesday, 07 November 2006
Now that civil partnerships have been legalised by the government there is expected to be a rise in the amount of gay couples going on holiday, according to a new report.
Research from Out Now Consulting, which specialises in analysing the gay market, has predicted a boom in luxurious beach-side gay weddings as well as rises in honeymooning homosexuals.
Ian Johnson, managing director of Out Now Consultancy, said: "This year gay and lesbian people in Britain will collectively earn a pre-tax pay packet of more than £70 billion. They will take two to three holidays annually."
Readers of gay and lesbian magazines, Diva and the Gay Times, have found that sometimes checking into a hotel as a gay couple can be stressful so new gay-friendly hotels are getting more popular.
Regardless of their sexual orientation, couples are reminded to take out a cheap travel insurance quote online.
PlanetOut, a popular gay website, holds an annual gay and lesbian travel award ceremony and this year's destination of the year was "fabulous" Spain.
Ed Salvato, who edits PlanetOut travel section, said: "There might as well be a map of Spain next to the definition of 'progressive society' in the dictionary."
