Travel insurance: Travellers heading on holiday 'without insurance'

People in the UK are going on holiday without a travel insurance policy, according to a national cover body.

The British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) has revealed that some holidaymakers go away thinking that they simply will not need it.

Others "don't want to pay" for cover for their trips, according to the UK organisation, which could prove to be problematic, should an accident befall travellers.

Technical and corporate affairs executive for Biba Graeme Trudgill reminded people that "the cover is there and is actually fairly reasonably priced".

He added: "The message is to get out there because if you do get bad weather or any kind of incident then it could be extremely complicated and expensive to try and [put it right]."

Research released last week by NHS Direct revealed that holidaymakers would be better off taking a first aid kit with them on their travels.
