The number of people making claims on their home insurance policies is anticipated to increase this month due to the adverse weather conditions across Britain.

Weather has caused many issues in the UK so far this January, as torrential rain and winds of up to 95mph have impacted wide portions of the country.

As a result, insurers are preparing for an increase in claims for damage to property and flooding in homes.

Commenting on the situation, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) believes that firms will offer a fast response when it comes to helping policyholders.

Nick Starling, director of general insurance for the ABI, said: "Their number-one priority is to ensure that anyone who suffers damage gets their claim dealt with as quickly as possible."

The ABI urged those making a claim to contact their insurer at the first possible instance, which will allow the claim to start moving fast.
