Home insurance holders inspired by others

Thursday, 10 May 2012

A spokeswoman for the discount homeware retailer Homesense has found herself going on the record about a spate of what she refers to as "stealing".

But this is one sort of "theft" that will not affect home insurance premiums – and which the "victim" is unlikely to mind too much about.

Jenny Spiers, the company's marketing manager was talking about "stealing design ideas" for the home, in the wake of research from the company that suggested around a third of women have taken inspiration from people they know when it comes to the way they kit out their lounge.

Some 37 per cent had had a similar thing happen in reverse – seeing that items they owned had also been purchased by people they knew. But the majority found themselves laughing about it or felt complimented.

In the rundown of things to imitate when it comes to home style, sofas, frames and even TVs featured.

"People tend to copy interiors they have seen in the flesh, rather than on TV shows and magazines, Those looks are attainable and more cost effective to copy," said Ms Spiers, whose company also trades in garden furniture, according to its website.
