Homeowners urged to keep secure
Friday, 06 January 2012
Police in South Wales have advised homeowners to make sure they are keeping their property secure, after a spate of burglaries in the region highlighted the dangers of home break-ins in the dark winter months.
Since December, 11 homes in the area have been broken into, as opportunist thieves look for a quick buck, leaving the residents of houses having to deal with the loss of their belongings while dealing with home insurance claims.
Detective chief inspector Gary Osborne, head of Bridgend CID, told Wales Online: "It is very important to ensure that your houses are locked and secured particularly at night or when the you are not at home as the majority of burglaries are committed by entering through doors or windows that are left unlocked."
At the beginning of this year's winter, it was reported by confused.com that the number of insurance claims made for home break-ins rises greatly every winter.
