Ice warning signs to boost safety

Wednesday, 01 February 2012

A council has increased the safety of a road notoriously bad for skidding cars, by adding road safety signs which warn motorists about the dangers of ice on the road.

The A15, which is a major route, leading to the Humber Bridge, has had the installation of illuminated signs made in order to cut the number of collisions and car insurance claims in the area because it is known to be colder than the rest of the region.

Whenever temperatures on the stretch drop below three degrees, the sign will flash to warn drivers of the potentially slippery conditions, according to This Is Scunthorpe.

The signs may well be in use already this week, as the Met Office has predicted difficult driving conditions for people who are on the roads in the north of England, as well as in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, as snow and ice are expected to take their hold for the next few days.
