Homeowners must guarantee that they do not attempt any home improvements involving gas and electrics.,

Instead, these improvements should be left to experts, according to Jason Orme, editor at Homebuilding and Renovating, who explained that people must be incredibly careful with the work they carry out when it comes to replacing boilers.

Some tasks may not specifically require the work of a Gas Safe-registered plumber, but it is crucial to hire professionals if the gas or electrics have to be repaired.

"With things like boilers, you have got to be very careful with the work that you do," Mr Borne warned.

Now may be a good time for home insurance policyholders to have work done on their boiler because central heating is likely to remain unused until winter.

By carrying out regular check-ups, residents will be able to keep equipment working efficiently for longer, while also preventing the costly repairs typically required when a boiler is not checked for a long period.
