Bathrooms: Inject 'a timeless quality' using stone

Thursday, 05 July 2012

People looking to inject "a timeless quality" into their bathrooms, could opt for natural stone, according to one expert.

Natural stone materials can achieve this "quality", according to Sean Cochrane from Cochrane Design in association with the BIID.

While mosaic use in the last two years or so has gone up, he said, he was aware of a move in the direction of "more classic stone finishes". He added that popular current choices included limestone and cararra.

"Natural stone will have an impact this year with clean limestone, carrara, honed slates and a few of the more daring marbles becoming more popular," he later added.

He also said that bathrooms were being increasingly prioritised within people's homes – which was the reason that customers continue to shell out a lot for them.

He added that they can lend a home value, however it wasn't the answer to simply throw cash in their direction.

He said that by using smart designing coupled with a limited number of well-chosen items "equally impressive bathrooms can be achieved on a lower budget with the vast selection available currently".

In other bathroom developments that home insurance holders may want to take note of, Quirke McNamara Consultancy's Susan Quirke recently suggested that both wet rooms and luxurious bathing areas are currently fashionable.
