Car insurance customers in the Yorkshire region are set to benefit from an additional GBP1 million investment in the East Riding's roads, bringing the total spending now approved to GBP3.6 million.

Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of the council and chairman of the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) that endorsed the grant, said residents, businesses and emergency services are all set to benefit from improvements to the road network.

"I welcome this decision from our partners to provide an extra GBP1m of funding for road repairs," he commented.

"This decision has come about because members of the LSP recognise the need for the road network in the East Riding to be maintained for all road users."

The East Riding's highway network covers more than 3,300km and is used for more than 26 million journeys per year, but the last two winters have led to a significant rise in the number of potholes and structural defects it has suffered.
