Car insurance for older drivers could be less expensive because they are making effective use of their experience when they travel on the roads.
A spokesman for the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) believes that more mature motorists are better when it comes to planning when they travel.
Peter Rodger, the chief driving examiner at the group, says they manage to avoid the main times when accidents occur, such as late at night or in the rush hour.
However, Mr Rodger believes older drivers may be making more
motor insurance claims as a result of busy junctions.
He explained: "They are over-represented in crashes at road junctions on high-speed roads, or where junctions are very complicated."
IAM has made the remarks as over-60s in Leicestershire are being encouraged to take part in a council-run driver training course specifically for older motorists.
Leicestershire County Council has begun a one-hour course that gives drivers the chance to rectify any bad habits.
