Motor insurance: M25 gets journey time signs
Friday, 31 August 2007
Motor insurance customers will soon be able to calculate exactly how long it will take them to get to the next junction on the M25.
Electric road signs will be set up along the motorway circling London listing the estimated travel times to the junctions ahead.
This is not the first time said service has been used, a similar sign system has been in operation in the West Midlands and the south west, where it has received widespread support.
Motorists will be able to see updated estimated times and the signs will take traffic flow and distances into account.
Road minister Tom Harris told the BBC the technology would help drivers make decisions about their routes based on traffic conditions.
He added: "We are making best use of our technology to help drivers find out about traffic conditions on their route both before they leave and during their journey."
