Car insurance: Keep an eye on tyres, says group

Tuesday, 22 July 2008

Car insurance customers may consider keeping an eye on their tyres as summer approaches.

This is because road safety organisation TyreSafe has highlighted tread depth, the condition of the wheel and air pressure as the most important aspects of maintenance.

And the group also pointed out that drivers looking to stay safe should also try to stay within the 1.6mm legal minimum tread requirement for tyres.

Indeed, this could help them keep their car insurance policies intact if they can avoid accidents on the road.

"Motorists preferring to have their tyres checked professionally can take their vehicle to any reputable tyre retailer, who will be able to provide tyre safety advice and information," said TyreSafe.

A not-for-profit organisation, TyreSafe was originally established as the Tyre Industry Council some 16 years ago and has been advising motorists on how to look after their wheels ever since.
