Kent speed cameras flash 23,787 drivers

Friday, 27 January 2012

The number of car insurance holders flashed by speed cameras in Kent during 2010 has been revealed as 23,787.

Figures published by the Kent and Medway Safety Camera Partnership revealed that on the A229 Loose Road, Maidstone, over 1,600 drivers committed offences which were resolved by fixed penalty, referral to court or a Speed Awareness Course.

Chief inspector Andy Reeves, head of roads policing for Kent Police and chair of the Safety Camera Partnership, said: "In addition to the data we currently publish, we are making this information available to allow local residents to see the extent of how cameras are helping to reduce casualties. The casualty figures speak for themselves and show that safety cameras have reduced the number of people killed or seriously injured at camera sites."

Other hotspots in the county saw 1,080 motorists flashed on the A264 Pembury Road, Tunbridge Wells, during 2010, while just two motorists had a case resolved after exceeding speed limits on the A228 Frindsbury Hill, Rochester.
